Water skiing is a very popular summer sport enjoyed by many. You might even be one of these people. Water skiing is a water-sport that satisfies all ages. Some different sports, for example wake boarding and surfing, can sometimes appear slightly intimidating to the inexperienced, whereas water skiing has many facets that will be loved by the whole family. Before we get into some of the safety precautions, let's do a fast refresher about what water skiing is. Skiers start off suspended inside the water with the tip of the skis aiming up and out of the water. As the craft speeds up, the skier can pull-up and stand straight. Skiers are pulled around by a rope with a handle fitted at one end and connected to a boat at the other end.
Do you know how to safely do this sport though? We will share with you some safety precautions that need to be taken by anyone when they are water skiing.
Baby Travel Bassinet
1. You should first know how to swim well before learning how to water ski. This sport is ideal for those who swim well and dangerous for a weak swimmer.
2. Always wear a life jacket that is in good shape. It should also be on that is Coast Guard approved. The shops you buy your skis in should also carry these life jackets.
3. Know the person that is driving the boat. They should be someone who operates a boat safely and sober. You are risking your life to ski behind a boat that is being driven by someone drinking alcoholic beverages.
4. There should be another person in the boat as a spotter whose sole job is to watch you while you are skiing. This is in case you fall into the water and let go of the rope. The spotter will know immediately and be able to tell the driver to circle around and pick you up.
5. Make sure the ski rope and other skiing equipment is in good shape. You do not want anything malfunctioning in the middle of a skiing jaunt.
6. The busiest days on the lake may not be the safest ones to ski. Summer holidays like the 4th of July can have too many boaters and skiers on the lake which can make it hazardous. So wait until the crowd clears of ski the next day instead.
7. Skiing in a rain isn't advised due to the impairment of field of vision experienced by the boat operator.
Follow the above tips and you will have safe ski trip.
